Transferring to a Science School in Contra Costa County: Requirements and Process

Are you considering transferring to a science school in Contra Costa County? If so, you should be aware of the special requirements and process involved. Interdistrict transfers are transfers from one school district to another, not from one school to another within the same district (intradistrict). If your request for an interdistrict transfer is denied by the school district's board of directors, you can file an appeal with the County Board of Education within 30 days. Once the County Office of Education has determined that all local resources have been exhausted, an appeal hearing can be scheduled.

The County Board of Education cannot order that a student be served at a specific school within a district, only that the student may attend a school in the district. Interdistrict permission is available to West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) residents who wish to transfer to another school outside of the district, as well as to students who reside outside the WCCUSD area and wish to attend a school in the district. Science schools typically offer courses that are introductory in nature and provide students with fundamental skills and knowledge in mathematics, English, the arts, humanities, and physical, biological and social sciences. An arts and science course program can provide students with a broad educational experience. If you are considering transferring to a science school in Contra Costa County, it is important to understand the requirements and process involved. Be sure to research your options thoroughly and contact your local school district for more information.
