Space Shuttle Endeavour up close and personal.
Energy filled Brentwood Science Magnet Elementary School when Space Shuttle Endeavour flew over our campus on Friday September 21, 2012.   Students were so excited to see this historic event happening live.

I am thrilled about the learning that will occur because of this event.  Research shows that children learn best when content is concrete and relevant in their lives. They can also visit Space Shuttle Endeavor at the California Science Center starting October 30, 2012 to learn more.  Admission is free.

Thank you Space Shuttle Endeavour for inspiring my students to pursue careers in science as well as contributing to history and the learning process.

Brentwood Science Magnet before David shared his gift.
Brentwood Science Magnet touched by David! (David is on top of the mural.)
I would like to publicly thank David for his gift of love which he expressed so magnificently through his art.  This is evident in the mural "Colorful California"" above.

When David passed, he was in process of completing a second mural with our school named "Children's Earth Garden".  This mural gave each of our wonderful 1240 students an opportunity to paint a unique animal species icon.  I remember David commenting that this project was the biggest project with students he had facilitated.  Brentwood Science Magnet will be completing the mural this summer.  Our school community will dedicate it to David this Fall to honor him.

Please read the article in The Malibu Times or Santa Monica Patch for more details about the life and death of David Legaspi III.

Once again with appreciation and gratitude, we thank you David for making our school and lives brighter.  You will always be with us.

LOS ANGELES, CA  -  The annual Brentwood Science Elementary Community Fair will return on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 11 am - 4 pm at 740 Gretna Green in Brentwood.  This fun-filled, much anticipated event includes moon bounces, giant slides, games, exhibits, stage shows, food booths and a fantastic silent suction.  There are no admission fees.  Costs are kept low to keep this a fun-filled and family-friendly event.

The exciting Silent Auction includes items such as golf for 3 guests at Riviera Country Club with Sugar Ray Leonard, celebrity signed items such as Magic Johnson's Lakers jersey and Pau Gasol’s basketball, a Kardashians poster signed by all of the Kardashians, a gourmet chef-prepared dinner for 10 at your house, jewelry, classroom gift baskets, summer camps, restaurants and spa certificates, tickets to Disneyland, Legoland, Dodgers and much more.  The proceeds from the auction help support the school's arts and music programs and gives needed supplies for the magnet school science classes.

"This year's fair is going to be fantastic and reflects the wonderful community of parents and children at Brentwood Science Magnet" said Brentwood Science Magnet School Principal Ms. Aleta Taylor.  "The funds we raise will enable us to continue the arts and music education that is so vital to a child's early education."

The amazing volunteer team of parents, teachers, alumni and community supporters work hand-in-hand to create a day treasured by all.  The Fair is open to the public and is a wonderful event that highlights our school and community.  The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Fair - so help save lives too!

Brentwood Science Magnet is the most diversified school in all of the Los Angeles Unified School District with more than 27 languages spoken in the home.  It is a wonderful environment that teaches children to appreciate their differences while working together.  Recently, Brentwood Science Magnet was the recipient of a mural of California painted on two full building walls by the acclaimed artist, David Legaspi.  The mural was made possible by the generosity and efforts of Brentwood Green, the Brentwood community group responsible for the beautification of school grounds that doubles as a community park.

The annual Fair is made possible by the collaboration of Parents, BSME School Administration and Teachers, Compensatory Education Advisory Committee (CEAC), English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), Friends of BSME, School Site Council, School Leadership Council, BSME Alumni Group, STAR Enrichment, YMCA, Brentwood Green, and various businesses, merchants and other supporters.  All net proceeds benefit BSM Elementary.

Math Madness is a fundraiser that supports our program and student achievement.  Here's how it works.  Students find people to sponsor them.  They ask family, friends, and neighbors to pledge money for each math problem they answer correctly.  Next, students take a math test in class with 25 math problems.  Each correct answer earns one point! Finally, 20% of the money raised in each class will go back directly to their classroom.

Our brilliant students raised over $16,000!  Congratulations Tigers!

Brentwood Science Magnet School broke a school record this month.  We raised $45,000 by selling chocolates to family and friends.  This money will help fund our music and art teachers for next year.  The top sellers were placed in a raffle to win a Kindle and other prizes.  Top sellers will also participate in a celebration at the end of April.  Thank you for your support!  We are the Tigers!! The Mighty Mighty Tigers!

Support our Chocolate Drive Fundraiser!  You have about one week left to sell, sell, sell. The proceeds go towards purchasing our fabulous music and art teacher as well as a few clerical positions.  Please support your school and help make this fundraiser a huge success.

Don't forget.  You can also make cash donations to the school if you choose.

Let's Go Tigers!  Let me hear you roar!!!!

Brentwood Green one of our wonderful community partners will be at Brentwood Science Magnet to premiere the showing of the amazing mural depicting California landscapes.  A talented muralist named David Legaspi is responsible for this extraordinary masterpiece.  It was created in memory of and honoring Brentwood Green's late member, muse, and inspiration Barbara Goldenberg.

This amazing mural also remembers the brief life of the granddaughter of a Brentwood Green member, depicting her reaching for the sky, surrounded by the laughter of the students at play.

_Brentwood Green at Brentwood Science Magnet School was founded by a concerned group of Brentwood residents in 1997 to support and beautify the Brentwood Science Magnet School and to create a Community Park in the middle of Brentwood. During the past 15 years, because of the generous financial contributions from supporters Brentwood Green created a wonderful, beautiful playground and fifteen “Learning Gardens” throughout the campus.  The schools’ grounds are now open to the community after hours, on weekends and holidays.

The dedication ceremony will be Sunday March 4, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. on the playground.  Brentwood News will cover the event.  Please read this article in Brentwood News

Please join us in celebrating this wonderful creation, which gives life to the science curriculum outside of the classroom.  Our students will not only experience California landscapes but they will learn about all of the flora and fauna of the regions.

Admission is free, however, if you wish to donate at the event, we will have donation forms for your convenience. Donation can be made with cash, check, PayPal (donations@brentwoodgreen.org) or credit cards.
